Genital Lesions Removal

Genital lesions can be unpleasant looking, irritating, and can psychologically affect sexuality. Most of the genital lesions are transmitted via sexual activity and you can contract them through sexual intercourse- even condoms do not give 100% protection.

In women, genital lesions mostly appear inside the vagina, at the vaginal opening, or around the labia and perineum. Common forms are condyloma, papilloma, Molluscumcontagiosum, and herpetic vesicle. After evaluation and diagnosis, treatment options include topical medications and genital lesion destruction and removal.

Genital warts, caused by the human papilloma virus, are the most common type ofgenital skin lesion. These warts appear as flat or raised, though most often as cauliflower like lesions on the vaginaor the pubic area.

Treatment with topical options can sometimes be effective- if topical medications are not resolving the warts, destruction and removal remains the best choice of genital lesions treatment.

Dr. Bloy offers both alternatives for genital warts. If a removal is necessary or desired, Dr. Bloy treats skin lesions of the genitals by local application of a chemical, localelectrodesiccation, local application of liquid nitrogen or the use of cryothermal instrument, or by laser beam to kill the diseased tissue or organism. Dr. Bloy applies the treatment to the genital lesions only and carefully freezes or destroys only the genital lesions and preserves the surrounding tissue whenever possible. Using these methods, no tissue is removed and no closure is required.

Larger genital lesions may need more extensive removal. Dr. Bloy excises selected large lesions of the genitals not removable by other methods. After local numbing anesthesia has fully numbed the area, he removes the genital lesion and a border of normal tissue. In some cases, this results intheuse of sutures, but only if necessary. If necessary, Dr. Bloy will choose to remove extensive lesions of the genitals using one or more of several methods.
