Skin Tightening Treatment

Loose skin on your neck, back, chest, stomach, and arms is frustrating. As we age, it is natural for our skin to lose some of its tone and elasticity. This is precisely what Renuvion J Plasma skin tightening treatment does – reduce laxity and improve skin tone. Renuvion J Plasma can tighten your skin without extensive surgery and allow you to feel more confident in your more youthful tighter skin.

Renuvion treatments use cold plasma energy to reshape your body instantly. Renuvion® (also known as J-Plasma) is a revolutionary skin tightening treatment that uses RF energy and helium plasma beneath the surface to tighten and contract loose skin. It is a minimally invasive procedure that can be used in conjunction with SmartLipo contouring liposuction or as a stand-alone procedure.

What Renuvion J-Plasma®?

Renuvion is a non-surgical procedure that tightens and refreshes loose skin without the need for extensive surgery, extended downtime, or large surgical scars. This precision repair is unique because the doctor can apply controlled heat to target specific areas for skin tightening.

How Does Renuvion® J-Plasma Work?

The Renuvion® technology uses helium gas and radiofrequency energy to create cold helium plasma. Through a tiny incision, your doctor will use a special handpiece to apply the plasma energy to the undersurface of the skin (see video). The ionized gas stimulates collagen production and causes the skin to contract and tighten immediately. The process is very similar to liposuction because it uses tumescent solution to numb the tissues and minimize bleeding.

For the Renuvion procedure, the doctor creates a small insertion spots for placing the device just under the skin. Once the device is in place, the specialist releases pro helium gas and radiofrequency (RF) to create a precise stream of energy (plasma). This energy generates enough heat to contract the skin while, at the same time, excess helium gas cools the treatment area. This combination of energy contracts the tissues just under the skin, which tightens it.

Is Renuvion J-Plasma Right For Me?

Any patient who has loose skin in almost any area of the body, including abdomen, back, arms, thighs, or neck and face may benefit from the procedure. Patients who are undergoing SmartLipo liposuction body contouring procedure should consider Renuvion if loose skin is a likely going to occur or is a concern. The doctor will do a thorough examination to see if you are a good candidate who would benefit from Renuvion skin tightening.

Renuvion can be done during your liposuction procedure or after you have had liposuction to help tighten skin. Depending on how recent your liposuction procedure is, the doctor may require you to wait 6-8 months to allow softening of scar tissue before undergoing the procedure.

What Areas Can Be Treated with Renuvion J-Plasma?

You can use Renuvion to firm and tighten skin in many areas including the abdomen, arms, back, breasts, buttocks, chest flanks, and knees. It’s also an option for your face, jowls and neck.

Almost any area where loose skin is a problem can be treated with Renuvion J Plasma including:

  • Abdomen

  • Chin

Am I a Candidate for Renuvion J-Plasma Skin Tightening Treatment?

Renuvion is a treatment option for patients who want skin tightening results, but do not want to do invasive plastic surgery with extensive downtime and high risks.

No other minimally invasive technology will tighten the skin to this degree with such a:

  • tiny incision
  • little or no scarring
  • minimal (almost no real) downtime

What Results Can I Expect from Renuvion® J-Plasma?

This procedure is ideal for those who have mild to moderate loose skin from age, weight-loss or pregnancy. It is also a great option for those who wish to prevent potential loose skin that can result after liposuction, especially when a large volume of fat is removed. Some patients may see instant results from this procedure. These results may also improve as time goes on.

Due to Renuvion enhancing the structure and integrity of the skin, results will be natural looking. You will not have the stretched skin appearance that can be a side effect of some more intensive surgical skin tightening procedures.

When Will I See the Results of This Skin Tightening Treatment?

While you may notice some improvements in the first days and weeks after your procedure as your skin shrinks and contracts, the most dramatic changes will be apparent in the six to twelve months as Renuvion remodels the top layer of skin and tightens underlying layers, producing a smoother and noticeably lifted appearance.

Why Choose Renuvion J-Plasma®?

Unlike conventional devices, Renuvion offers a much lower risk of injury to the surrounding tissues. Also, compared to plastic surgery, Renuvion involves minimal incisions and minimal downtime. It is an ideal skin tightening treatment for men and women of any age with mild to moderate sagging skin. If you are concerned with sagging skin due to age, previous pregnancy or weight fluctuations, it is a great solution.

What Happens During the Renuvion J-Plasma® Procedure?

During a Renuvion treatment, Dr. Richard Bloy will administer local tumescent numbing anesthesia. The same local tumescent anesthesia that is used for liposuction is also used for the Renuvion J-Plasma treatment. To perform the numbing and the procedure, Dr. Bloy will make very small insertion spots, about ¼ inch long, near the treatment site. After you are fully numbed, the Renuvion device is inserted, and a mixture of helium gas and radiofrequency waves is released to the tissues underneath the skin, generating heat and cooling energy simultaneously, which causes the skin to contract, tighten up, and create new collagen. The surrounding tissue stays intact.

If you will be undergoing liposuction along with Renuvion J-Plasma, this will come first.

The same incisions will be used to insert both the Renuvion device (the instrument that houses the helium beam) and the liposuction cannula.

Can I Have the Renuvion J-Plasma® Instead of a Tummy Tuck Procedure?

Renuvion is effective in correcting mild to moderate skin laxity, but it cannot replace a Tummy Tuck. If you have more significant skin laxity, skin redundancy (loose folds), or muscle laxity (diastasis), then you would likely be a better candidate for a Tummy Tuck. The doctor will do a thorough examination and explain to you which procedure is recommended for your individual case.

Is Renuvion J-Plasma® Safe?

Yes, Renuvion is a very safe and effective procedure when performed by a doctor who is trained and certified. The flexile and blunt handpiece is specially designed to prevent penetration injuries. Bleeding is usually minimal or non-existent due to the RF energies coagulation properties. The cold helium gas provides immediate cooling of the RF energy to protect surrounding tissue. Burns injuries are extremely rare and the Renuvion technology prevents the RF energy from firing without flow of the helium gas. Helium gas is an inert gas that is safely expelled from the body with no systemic effects.

What Is the Recovery Period for Renuvion J-Plasma®?

Recovery after J-Plasma will depend on the number of areas treated and whether or not it was done in conjunction with SmartLipo laser liposuction. You should expect some swelling and bruising which can last up to two weeks or more. Most patients experience some numbness but minimal pain from J-Plasma alone. The skin tightening effect of J-Plasma can be be seen almost immediately, but improvements and additional tightening can continue to occur up to six months after!

You should follow the doctor’s post-operative instructions closely to maximize your healing and achieve the best results. The doctor will recommend the best type of compression garments which could include foam and contouring devices. Other treatments including lymphatic massage, laser, ultrasound, or scar therapies may also be recommended by the doctor.

Recovery Details

Most patients combine this procedure with Liposuction. Adding Renuvion to Liposuction does not add extra recovery time.

If you have a sedentary job, you should have 2 – 3 days with no work. For those with physical jobs, up to 1 week off is preferable.

The return to exercise is usually relatively quick. In general, in 1 week you can return to light exercise and 2 weeks for heavy exercise. This can vary from person to person so please ensure that you listen to your body, see how you feel, and follow your doctor’s recommendation

Swimming and spas are best avoided for 1 week. As mentioned, smoking is prohibited for 6 weeks to ensure optimal healing and, if you can, try to use this break to stop for good.

Is Renuvion® J-Plasma Permanent?

J-Plasma causes permanent procedure in the sense that the skin tightening effect is not reversible. However, your skin will continue to age from this tighter starting point. You will lose elasticity with on-going age and over time, so, you may desire a repeat treatment(s). Patients who have moderate weight fluctuations may also experience recurrent skin laxity.

Do I Need to Combine Renuvion® J-Plasma With Another Procedure?

Renuvion can be used as a stand-alone procedure if there is no excess fat in the treatment area or if the patient does not need fat removed to achieve the tightening, smoothing result they are seeking.

However, for those with excess fat in the treatment area, it is most commonly done in conjunction with SmartLipo liposuction. Renuvion tightening can be added to any SmartLipo laser liposuction procedure, the doctor will discuss with you if you would benefit from adding it. Only cases where loose skin is evident or is anticipated will benefit from Renuvion J-Plasma.

Renuvion® Pricing

While Renuvion can be done as a stand-alone procedure, it’s more commonly added onto an existing procedure such as SmartLipo. There are a number of factors that will affect the cost of your Renuvion treatment including the size of the treatment area and your desired results. On average, however, patients pay approximately $2,500 – $7,000, depending on how many areas and whether Renuvion is performed as a stand-alone procedure or in addition to liposuction. Adding Renuvion to your SmartLipo procedure makes Renuvion less expensive than it is by itself. You can find out the exact price of your treatment during a complimentary consultation with Dr. Bloy.

Does Insurance Cover the Cost of Renuvion J-Plasma®?

No. Unfortunately, medical insurance will not cover the costs of liposuction or Renuvion. These treatments are considered elective cosmetic procedures, which insurance doesn’t cover.

Renuvion Consultation Fee

There is a required consultation to discuss Renuvion and determine if Renuvion is right for you and your goals. The consultation appointment consists of the provider meeting with you to learn about your goals, exam the areas of concern, evaluate your medical and surgical history, review any medications, conditions, or illness that may be contraindications, discuss the procedure, aftercare, downtime and likely results, and help you decide if Renuvion and or SmartLipo is an appropriate treatment for you.

The consultation fee is $150. If you are consulting for SmartLipo and Renuvion, the one fee covers the consultation for both at the one visit.
